Urban mushing workshop: basic and advance (Full day Deal)

In this workshop you have the basic and advanced workshop combined.
This is the fondation of all joring sports: cani-walk, canicross, bikejoring, dog scootering, kicksledding, skijoring etc. There is 2 parts to this workshop: the classroom part(morning) and the practice part(afternoon). If you want to do it right, this is the perfect course

Classroom part

In this part of the workshop we will talk about:

-Canine body language and stress in sports
-Canine morphology and it’s importance in those sports
-Nutrition and hydration for the human and the canine athlete
-The dog’s gait
-Canine senses and their effect while doing those sports
-Dog and human fitness
-
Training technique, your strength and your dog strength, weakness, distance/sprint
-Trail etiquette and what you need to know if you plan to compete
-What race you would like to enter, what race you should enter first. What you need to know
-Trail fork; type of trail, ground, sands, pine needle, mud, ice, snow type, rocks, roots, slopes, curbs, rivers, bridges, distance etc. 
-Commands, yes we will practice all the commands needed
-Safety
-What to wear: human and dogs
-How to do your plan
-Equipment 101
-Training technique
-Problem solving/strategies about training your dog Etc.
-Question period


There will be a 15 minutes break in the middle of the morning. Coffee, juice and muffins are included. The workshop might be a little bit longer depending of the amount of question ask.

In this workshop you will also receive a 39 pages booklet

Lunch time and fitting(if people need gear for themself and their dog)

Practical part

This part is done outside, so dress accordingly. Wear the proper footwear exemple: running shoes

In this part you will be practicing all the important mushing commands.
GEE, HAW, ON BY, WHOA, EASY, LINE OUT, HIKE, LEAVE IT, COME GEE, COME HAW etc.


You will also be given all the tools necessary if problem arise (what to do if my dog do this or that)

Question period

There will be a 15 minutes break in the middle of the afternoon. Coffee, juice and muffins are included.


What you need to bring

The workshop is given in Fort Erie.  
Each student need to bring a kennel/cage for their dog(this is for the classroom period).
Pen and paper
Your canicross gear if you have some.
Your dog’s bowl and water bottle for the afternoon training.
Poop bags.
Treats.  
Rain jacket(Spring, Summer, Autumn) in case as the afternoon training is done outside, also a towel for your dog.
Dress accordingly, bring extra clothing, just in case
You have to bring your lunch.
Photo ID as you will need to sign a waiver
I will have coffee, juice and snacks for the 2 coffee breaks.
If you need to buy any gear, the fitting for your dog's harness and your gear will be done after lunch. 
The full day workshop is from 8:30 AM till 4:00 PM.

Before the workshop you will need to fill out a waiver and a emergency contact form.
 
It is best if you bring only one dog, to be able to concentrate on all the task properly. If you have multiple dog, choose the one that might have harder time to learn.

-Students will get a booklet before the workshop and also a certificate once workshop is completed.

Urban mushing workshop (Basic workshop)

You have a dog and you would like to know if urban mushing is for you. In this workshop you will have everything needed to get you and your dog started. For this course you need to be able to walk at a fast pace. Your safety and the safety of your dog will always be first with us. 

This workshop is your fondation for urban mushing, would it be canicross, bikejoring, kicksledding, skijoring, dog scootering etc. If you want to practice those sports safely with your dog than you need this basic course. You don't like to run but you would like to bikejor with your dog at some point, still you need this course first, you need the base, when you are going to practice, you just need to walk. Would you give you car key to someone that has never driven a car before? No! It is easier to teach your dog what it is suppose to do on foot than on a bike or scooter. If you want to do it right , right from the start well this is the right course.

 Before the workshop you will need to fill out a waiver and a emergency contact form.

If you don't have the proper gear, we can lend you some for the workshop at no extra cost, but you will have the opportunity to buy some before the start of the workshop or after if you want.

The dog's age required to do this workshop. Your dog is not going to be pulling anything. For young dog , this workshop is an opportunity to start teaching your dog the commands if your dog is between 8 to 18 months old.

In this half day course you will learn:

-Equipment needed
-How to teach those basic commands GEE, HAW, WHOA, ON BY
-Warm up, cool down & stretching for you and your dog
-Basic safety on trails
-Some important point about your dog's health. Temperature, nutrition, hydration, dog's pads etc.
-How to do your plan and get you started. How much can you do right now? This will be your starting point.

 This workshop is almost all done outside.

There is one coffee brake included

Urban mushing workshop (Advance workshop)

-Pre-requisite: have completed the urban mushing basic workshop.

This workshop would be for the person that would like to race with his canine friend. Or have a more in deapth course. In this workshop you will be required to be able to run for about 2 minutes countinously for the part that we teach HIKE.

You have done your Basic Urban Mushing Workshop and you like it very much and you want some more. Well this one if for you

Half of this workshop is in classroom, the other half is the practical part outside. You need to bring a cage for your dog(for the classroom part), a bowl, poop bags, if you have a canicross belt, bungee line and a harness bring them. You need to dress accordingly and have proper footwear example: running shoes

In the advance workshop you will learn:

Dog morphology & their senses

Dog's gait

Trail fork; type of trail, ground, sands, pine needle, mud, ice, snow type, rocks, roots, slopes, curbs, rivers, bridges, distance etc

What race you would like to enter, what race you should enter first. What you need to know

Problem solving/strategies about training your dog (we will be reviewing the most common problems, more that 20)

Bikejoring or Dog Scootering Workshop

Pre-requisite:
-Completed either basic Urban Mushing Workshop or Full Day Urban Mushing Workshop or your dog has to know the basic commands for your safety, the safety of others and safety of your dog.

-You need to be able to ride easily on your bike or scooter before attempting to have your dog to bikejore or scooter with you.
-The dog needs to be at least 30 lbs +, more than 1 year old for the bikejoring and 18 months old or more for the dog scootering.
- You bike or scooter need to be in a good working order


In this course we will go through:

Kicksledding Workshop

-Pre-requisite: The dog need to be at least 30 lbs or + and 18 months and + to participate to this workshop or your dog has to know the basic commands for your safety, the safety of others and safety of your dog.

-During this workshop there will be only one dog one handler for the workshop, no mixing of dog.
-
This workshop depend on the amount of snow and the quality of it, no snow no go.
